A long time ago, people in Ireland and Scotland celebrated a festival
called “ Samhain ” on November 1st. People believed that evil spirits
came out on the night before — All Hallows’ Eve. To scare them
away, people wore costumes and made loud noises.
That’s how October 31st became Halloween.
(All Hallows’
Now, people celebrate Halloween with fun outfits, candy, and
pumpkins. Children go trick-or-treating and carve Jack-o’-lanterns.
